Not sure how I happened upon this ode to the Loman-esque qualities of the itinerant scholar this evening, but it's a lovely bit of bitterness. I certainly jive. My most recent insight into the "eternal recurrence" you describe involves a repetitive and dreary commute through the byways of mid-Michigan to campus every day, which is perhaps a different sort of sense of the traveling (and dying) salesman. More prosaic, but perhaps even more potent and poignant in that respect...
