The Worst of Perth

Heh. My mother taught my sister and myself to read way before starting school. In year 1, having exhausted all reading texts up to year seven, as a sop to our boredom, they gave us random defunct texts from the local library. I received a book called "From Serf to Citizen." At five years old, I may have benefited more from Lenin's book. Maybe it was by Lenin.

Your letter reminds me of this scene from the Seinfeld episode "The Library," where Jerry gets a visit from the Library cop, Mr. Bookman (played by Philip Baker Hall), about a book - Tropic of Cancer, by Miller - which he checked out in 1971 and never returned.
