The mention of Plotinus is interesting. In Radhakrishnan's introductory essay to his translation of the Bhagavad-Gītā (1948), he seems to succumb to the simplistic comparisons that Justin alludes to above. In many of the footnotes you will find quixotic references to analogous tendencies discovered in Lao-tze, Plotinus, Augustine, among others. For example, the ātman "in its transcendental, cosmic and individual aspects answers to the Christian Trinity of Father, Son and Holy Ghost" (p. 24). Then again, Radhakrishnan was writing immediately after the war, and himself admitted that "the chief problem facing us today is the reconciliation of mankind" (Preface), so perhaps he may be forgiven this homogenizing perspective. However, if a clearer view is indeed Justin's goal, I would be extremely grateful to see more of this responsibly executed comparative work.
