I cannot think of a better choice for a literary Diotima. Eros the Bittersweet did not so much shape how I read Plato as say back to me, with an eloquence to which I could barely aspire, how I instinctively read Plato. (I reviewed it at LibraryThing.) And Glass, Irony & God showed that poetry was still capable of aspiring to prayer while remaining poetry.
